The Visual Arts are a new and exciting part of the offerings here at The Culture House! With our national award-winning
instructor, Matt Fox, our students have the opportunity to explore traditional and digital visual art opportunities. From Animation and
Cartooning, to a more traditional Drawing classes and Photography, the chances to express yourself continue to expand as we expand to bring

Beginner Drawing
Mon: 4-5:30
This class is a focus on form, texture, and reflection. Focusing on the medium of pencils, each student will learn how light interacts with 5 different surface types: Matte, Semi-Matte, Semi-Reflective, Reflective, Highly-Reflective. They will also learn contour and proportion. After learning each of these techniques, each student will work on a masterwork. This masterwork will incorporate simple and complex forms as well as three of the five textures learned.

Intermediate Drawing
Mon: 5:30-7
Intermediate Drawing is for students who show ability in both form and texture. Students will expand from pencils into oil pastels and chalk. They will also move from monochromatic shading to color shading. Each student will produce a masterwork from a still life.

Cartooning
Tue: 5:30-7
Cartooning is a class based on communication and story-telling. It is a dynamic approach to art that challenges the student to create more than just a pretty picture. Students will be introduced to four styles of cartooning: Classic, Comic, Manga, and Caricature. Each student choosing one of the first three styles will then compose a storyline for an individual character of their creation and create their own comic. Any student choosing Caricature art will be doing a series of three political cartoons based on past or current events.

If have ever thought about making an animated short, this is for you. Animation is art in motion. Each student will work with three different types of animation: 2D, Claymation, and Stop Motion. After learning how to control each of the media, the class will work as a team toward a single final project . . . a 30 second commercial for The Culture House!

Photography
Mon: 7-8:30
This is an introductory class to photography. It focuses on composition, light, and perspective. Each week students will be given an assignment to photograph based on the lesson that week. Each photo is critiqued both by peers and the instructor.
