- Thinking of becoming a professional dancer?
- Need Real World Experience and Practical Training?
- Want a greater appreciation of the arts as a whole?
The Culture House's Artist Development Program is a nine month program designed for the pre-professional dancer, age 18-30, by professional dancers. The program includes extensive training in ballet, modern and jazz with supplemental classes in tap, Flamenco, Hip Hop, and improvisation. Modern techniques include an emphasis on Graham and Horton with supplemental classes in a variety of other techniques.
Through our partnership with the Arts Education Department at the Carlsen Center, on the campus of Johnson County Community College, three to four Master Classes from national and international touring companies are also offered.
In addition, students will study foundational design courses in complimentary areas of Stage Lighting, Sets/Props, and Costuming. These practical, hands on courses give students the opportunity to design show lighting, create sets and props, and learn the craft of sewing and designing costumes.
And what are great artists without great lives? Central to the training of the Artist Development Program is to equip dancers for excellence in all of life. Towards this goal the curriculum includes spiritual training including classroom studies of culturally and spiritually relevant literature, studies in various world philosophies and Judeo-Christian apologetics, how to integrate one's life and one's faith into a success career in the arts, financial organization both on the personal and the professional level, attend arts performances and exhibits throughout the city, engage in discussion groups of modern cultural thought and much more.
But that's not all! What would great training be without great performances? At the heart of The Culture House's Artist Development Program is the uplifting of artists to create and perform works of art that will encourage and benefit the lives of individuals and communities. Each student participating in the program will culminate their studies by writing, choreographing, and designing individual works as well as collaborate with other students to create and design an ensemble dance concert performed at the end of the session. (Advanced students who continue a second year of studies are provided opportunities to both choreograph and design an original work of their own). This year end concert offers students a fun and exciting opportunity to put their recent training into practice and present it to the local community.

The Culture House's Artist Development Program has given me the opportunity to train in an excellent and encouraging environment and to receive the tools necessary to succeed as a dancer. The humility, dedication and imagination I observed through working with the Störling professionals has inspired me to create art that can impact the lives of individuals and their communities.
