Dear Educator:
The Culture House and Störling Dance Theater are committed to providing opportunities for students across the Kansas City metropolitan area and beyond to engage in quality educational experiences through the arts. Curriculum materials are now available for Störling Dance Theater's Underground for grades 3-12, including a summary of the plot, specific classroom activities, and resources for additional learning and teacher support. Using this vivid and captivating production as a backdrop, we have provided a wide variety of multi-sensory exercises that allow students to engage deeply with history as they discover how the enduring themes within Underground relate to their own lives.
The guided lessons are closely aligned with Kansas and/or Missouri state standards and allow classroom teachers the opportunity to select innovative grade-level activities they can use ahead of time to prepare students for the production or immediately after their students have seen the show. The goal is to extend the learning from the theatrical experience into the classroom and beyond.
