Welcome to the Culture House School of Theater!
The Culture House School of Theater was developed in 2005 with the desire to create an atmosphere of teaching excellence to positively inspire young lives that will ultimately impact our culture and world through theater arts.
The Culture House School of Theater is known in the community for its quality theatrical productions. Those who walk through the doors on a weekly basis know that The Culture House is much, much more. Every week, instructors, parents and classmates watch as confidence blossoms and children discover a place where they belong. Culture House families know that performing is about more than classes, rehearsals and appearing on stage. For many, their involvement at The Culture House is a life experience that teaches determination and dedication and gives children a place to express themselves.
We believe every person has been given gifts and talents that have a unique purpose. Therefore each student of the Culture House is invested in individually to help reach their full potential. This is achieved through student evaluations and individualized education planning. We believe our students, and their families satisfaction with our program is our highest priority.
“As parents we have been so blessed by the opportunities afforded to us at The Culture House. Sleeping Beauty is the second show where all three of our children are participating. Where else can a family with a 6, 11, and 13 year old all share in the same experience? For us it's all about the family and the memories we are creating through musicals.”
–Roy Loepp, father of Faith, Olivia and Victoria Loepp.
Our theater school offers a wide variety of theater arts classes for ages 3 and up that include recreational summer programs to after school classes and pre-professional training. All of our instructors are highly trained professionals in their field and uphold the mission statement of the Culture House.
The Theater Department at TCH has many ways to get involved at varied levels.
Semester classes
Are after school classes designed for elementary through high-school age students. They run in two 16 week sessions that begin in fall and winter and run consistent with the school year. We offer after school theater classes in musical theater, acting, improvisation, tap, jazz, ballroom/swing, solos and duets, stunts and combat, audition/callbacks and other varied specialty classes.
Mainstage Musicals
We produce two musicals each year that run simultaneously with the semester time line of theater classes. Main stage musical auditions are open to students at TCH that are enrolled in the dance or theater school and meet the 5 and up age requirement. Rehearsals for main stage musical productions are on Monday and Friday evenings. There are additional fees for those cast.
Summer Camp Sessions
Summer camps are a great way to enjoy the teaching excellence and get a taste of the environment and culture at TCH. Another great benefit of our summer camps is that each camper is part of the cast of our camp show and get to experience what it is like being a part of a musical theater production. All camps are week long with the grand finale being a musical theater performance on the last camp day.
Drama and Musical Theater Tour Groups
We hold auditions twice a year consistent with the semester time line. Students cast in the touring companies will take spend class time rehearsing for their show and preparing for local performances held throughout the greater Kansas City area. A sponsorship is also required for each cast member.
Full-Time Professional Theater Training
Artist Development Program for Theater Designed for the aspiring professional actor, who is high school through college age, this program offers students training in theater arts as a full-time student. Classes offered are in advanced Shakespeare, acting, directing, voice, mime, tap, jazz, costume, set/ property design, sound/lighting and an apologetics and book study.
